Netcreasia Purpurea
The
evergreen perennial Sedgracea purple is a plant with long shoots that decorate
spectacular leaf plates with sharp tops. It comes from Mexico. Among the
people, such a flower is also called "Purple Queen".
Today,
Netgracia is widely cultivated in open ground in most regions located in
subtropical and tropical latitudes. At the same time, in temperate climates,
this plant is usually grown indoors.
Sedgracia
is an amphilous plant that is part of the commeline family. The bush grows only
in the first two or three years and reaches a height of about 0.8 m. Then it
stops growing. Both the shoots and the surface of the leaf plates are painted
in a rich purple color. As the leaves become older, their color fades and they
have a barely noticeable turquoise-metallic sheen. The reverse surface of the
leaves is painted in a rich purple color.
Flowers are
seen in summer. Small flowers with three petals are painted in purple-pink or
pink color. During the year, the stems increase in length by about 0.3 meters.
Brief Description of Cultivation
Temperature. Such an ampelous plant usually
develops at an air temperature of 10 to 24 degrees.
Air humidity. The humidity level should be
moderate.
Light. Needs lots of bright light.
Irrigation. In the summer, the substrate in
the pot is moistened 2 times in 7 days, and in the winter months it is
moistened 1 time in 7 days.
Substrate. Optimal mixture: sand, garden soil
and compost.
Fertilizer. Top dressing is carried out in
spring and summer with a frequency of 1 time in 4 weeks.
Transplantation. This is carried out only if
necessary, if the bush is obstructed in a pot.
Reproduction. Top cutting.
Pruning. To keep the plant clean, it is
necessary to properly trim the stems.
Netcreasia maintenance at home
Under
natural conditions, Netgracia purpurea prefers to grow in a humid subtropical
climate, but it can quickly adapt to conditions other than natural. This plant
is undemanding in care, however, when growing it, several rules and features
must be taken into account.
Bloom
If you take
care of the plant properly, its flowers will be lush and very attractive. Small
purple-pink flowers decorate the bush from spring to the last summer days. They
include three magazines. To stimulate flowering, it is recommended to
systematically cut off faded flowers.
Temperature regime
Setcreasia
does not impose special requirements on air temperature. But at the same time,
as it is one of the heat-loving crops, it does not grow well in the cold. Note
that at temperatures below 8-10 degrees, the plant is severely damaged and may
die.
At the same
time, excessive air temperature can harm the plant. If the room is hotter than
25 degrees, this will negatively affect the appearance of the flower, and its
shoots will be very weak.
Air humidity
It is very
undesirable to moisten such a perennial from a spray bottle. It is also not
recommended to use a damp sponge or cloth to remove dust from the surface of
the leaves. The fact is that if water gets on the leaves, stains form on its
surface, which spoils the appearance of the flower. Use a dry cloth to remove
dust.
The light
This
culture is photosensitive. But it should be noted that under direct sunlight it
should not be more than three hours a day. The best option for this plant is
the eastern windowsill, while the light should spread.
If the
"Purple Queen" feels a severe lack of light, it is observed that its
shoots thin out, while the foliage fades. If it is not possible to reset the
bush to a place with high lighting, additional lighting is provided using
phytolamps for this. The plant should be under these lights for most of the
day.
Irrigation
For good
growth and development of Netgrasia, the substrate in the pot should always be
slightly moistened. But at the same time, during the warm season, you need to
water the plant more than twice every 7 days. To do this, use well-settled soft
water, the temperature of which should be close to room temperature. If the
liquid stagnates in the pot, this can lead to rotting of the root system.
To increase
the humidity of the air near the bush, it is recommended to place an open
container with water. You can take a deep pan, fill it with wet expanded clay
and place a flower pot on top.
In the cold
season, the bush should be watered once every 7 days. Strong drying of the
substrate should not be allowed. Watering is carried out after the soil mixture
is slightly wet. Remember that Meshcreasia should not be near working heaters.
The fact is that it can dry out the bush.
Pot
When
choosing a pot to plant the purple queen, you should pay attention to the size
of the bush and its root system. A small pot is used for planting the sapling.
As the plant matures and grows, it is transplanted into a larger pot.
Substrate and compost
Particular
attention should be paid to the selection of the soil mixture. It must be loose
and light. To prepare the substrate, you need to mix sod land, peat, humus and
sand in equal proportions. You can only pick a few components. It is also
recommended to pour a small amount of peat into the finished earth mixture.
It is
recommended to feed once in 30 days if the soil mixture in the pot is depleted.
To do this, use mineral complexes for home crops. Feed the plant only in spring
and summer. Due to the slowdown in the growth of the shoots or the absence of
flowers, it is recommended to feed the bush more often, that is, once every 2
weeks.
Pruning
Internal
netcreasia requires pruning, which is carried out properly. Pruning of growing
stems is carried out in order to form a more attractive and dense bush. If the
length of the shoot exceeds 0.4 m, it will begin to thin out, while the
distance between the leaf plates will increase significantly. It negatively
affects the decorative effect of the ampelous plant. Cut portions of stems can
be used as cuttings.
Meschgracia Transplantation
The plant
is transplanted only after the pot becomes smaller. At the same time, it is
highly undesirable to carry out this procedure too often. On average, Netgracia
is transplanted 1 or 2 times a year.
The best
time to transplant is spring. If for some reason the plant has lost its
decorative effect, transplanting will not improve the situation. In this case,
it is recommended to renew the bush by rooting the tip pieces.
Rest period
The dormant
period of the "Purple Queen" is observed in winter: flowering stops,
and the growth of shoots stops. During this time the plant should not be
disturbed and fed unnecessarily. It is watered occasionally, but at the same
time does not allow the substrate to dry out.
Propagation of Netcrasia by cuttings
Apical
cuttings are used to propagate Netgracia purpurea. The optimal length of the handle
is 8 to 10 centimeters. A glass of water is used to root the section, and it
can be immediately planted in the substrate. It can also root in a substrate
containing sphagnum and peat. Roots regrow very quickly.
To get a
thick and beautiful bush, you need to plant several pieces in one container at
the same time. Don't forget to pinch off the tops.
Possible problems
Netcreasia
grown indoors is very resistant to pests. However, sometimes insects such as
scale insects, spider mites and whiteflies still settle in it.
If the bush
is moved to fresh air in the warm season, caterpillars and garden butterflies
will endanger it. However, if the plant is strong and healthy, insects will not
cause significant harm to it.
If pests
are found on a plant, it should be isolated from other indoor crops as soon as
possible. It is also not recommended to delay pest control, in most cases they
multiply quickly, which greatly complicates the task. For the treatment of
Netcreasia, you can use both folk remedies and insecticides. For example,
foliage and shoots are treated with a solution of soap and an infusion of
garlic.
If the rules for caring for a plant are violated, problems such as:
Growth retardation or bush wilting. Often, the
flower feels a severe lack of nutrients.
The bush has lost its decorative effect. With a
lack of light, elongation of shoots and an increase in internodes are observed.
At the same time, the foliage changes its bright color to green and becomes
smaller. The same changes are characteristic of a plant transferred to a new
location. As a rule, it reacts negatively to changes in light intensity.
Exposure of lower part of stem. This is
due to the natural aging of the plant. Rejuvenate the bush by cuttings.
White spots on leaves. These are
burns from the direct rays of the sun. Move the bush to a spot with diffused
light.
The plant wilts and rot appears in the stems. Very dense
substrate. Due to this, the roots do not get enough oxygen for normal growth.
Drying the tips of the leaf blades. The roots
are very tight in the container. Transplant the bush into a larger pot.
Rot appeared on lower part of shoots and roots. The liquid
continues to stagnate in the substrate.
Very slow shoot growth. This is
due to excessive scarcity or infrequent irrigation. At the same time, young
foliage does not appear, and old ones begin to fade. The shoots are thin and
curved.
