In October 2006, Jadspot was acquired by Google. On February 28, 2008, Google Sites using Jotspot technology was released. The service is free, but users need a domain name, which Google provided for $10. However, as of May 21, 2008, Google Sites is available for free, separately from Google Apps, and does not require a domain.

 

In August 2020, the new Google Sites became the default website creation option and in November 2021, all websites created with classic Google Sites were archived.
